Thirty years ago, IT lived in a dark room somewhere in the bowels of your organization, populated by massive machines with blinking lights, run by a bunch of nerdy guys with pocket protectors. Day in, day out loading and unloading tapes, punch cards and running dot matrix reports. And nobody paid much attention to them as they happily worked in their glass house, masters of their universe with few questions asked or answered. For many years the key skills of the IT manager in technology operations remained unchanged.
